  I have been a patient at Orchard Surgery for many years, as have my children, and I find the doctors and staff at this surgery very caring and professional. I cannot fault them if I need an emergency appointment for my children. Yes, it is sometimes difficult to get an urgent appointment but, having spoken with other people, that appears to be the case in every practice in Horsham now.

  I hadn't registered since moving to the area but injured my back and needed to see a doctor. Receiption staff on the phone refused to give me an appointment until I came in personally and registered. Even after explaining that I was in considerable pain and could barely walk, they wouldn't budge. Only after many tearful phone calls, someone eventually agreed to let me register as a temporary patient and see a doctor at the same time. On arriving, it was clear to everyone that I was in severe pain but they were very cold and dismissive. My appointment was 50 minutes late and most of that was spent with me lying on the Receiption floor crying out of sheer desperation. Not one member of staff offered me some help.. well one put a chair beside my head so that a door wouldn't hit me. Every time I asked how much longer, they snapped at me about doctors being very busy. When I eventually saw the doctor, she seemed sympathetic and apologetic. However she offered no referral or advice and just wrote me prescription for painkillers. When I asked if there was an inhouse pharmacy, she replied "no, there's one down the road in Sainsbury's". I couldn't walk! Hugely unpleasant experience at what was an already distressing time. I don't know whether the Receiption staff don't enjoy their job or maybe they've seen so much that they've become indifferent and incapable of compassion. But really, sort your staff out!
